DREAM IN TIME. Art exhibition. January 2025.
This year, a unique exhibition will be presented with the aim of rediscovering lost 19th-century paintings on the eastern gate of the S. Rocco bridge in Vimercate.
The bridge has Roman origins, 3rd century AD. Fortified in two phases in the medieval era, it represents the only intact, visible and drivable access gate in all of Lombardy. In 1856, paintings were made on the eastern façade by Gaetano Barabini, a well-known Milanese painter. The subjects represent the miracle of the end of the 17th-century plague by the Virgin Mary, St. Stephen and St. Rocco and the other characters. The mural paintings are in a terrible state of conservation, almost no longer visible in their entirety. After months of investigations, studies and inquiries, it was decided to temporarily revive them thanks to the creation of paintings on canvas, on a 1:5 scale, by the Gianni brothers: Stefano, Giovanni and Emilio have worked hard to create the structures and paintings in question. You will be able to admire them during the inauguration presentation on Friday 10 January 2025. The exhibition will also be open on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 January.
